RR 92-4  Looking at old photographs: Investigating the teacher tales that novice teachers bring with them.

Abstract

This paper describes the interaction between remembrances of past school experience and projected or current teaching practices. The author draws an analytic distinction between the stories themselves and the particular beliefs or action theories the informants value. For teacher educators, the tales are strongly related to present beliefs about teaching. Remembrance potentially forms a powerful part_negative or positive_of learning to teach. The author suggests that "old photographs" provide a potentially exciting teachable moment.
